Your Wi-Fi password is the gatekeeper for every device on your home or office network. A weak Wi-Fi password exposes not just your internet connection but every device connected to it — phones, laptops, smart speakers, cameras, and more. WPA2 and WPA3 networks support passwords up to 63 characters, giving you plenty of room to use a strong, random credential. This generator defaults to 20 characters with the full character set — uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols — which provides around 130 bits of entropy, far exceeding any offline dictionary or brute-force attack against WPA handshakes. Once you generate and set your password, write it on a small card stored near your router so guests can type it, or share it as a QR code using your router's admin panel. Change your Wi-Fi password any time you remove a device or a guest from your trusted network. All generation runs locally in your browser; the password is never transmitted.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long should a Wi-Fi password be?

WPA2 and WPA3 accept passwords between 8 and 63 characters. Aim for at least 16 characters — 20 is a practical default that gives you strong security without being painful to type when setting up a new device. Shorter passwords are vulnerable to offline brute-force attacks against captured WPA handshakes.

Can special characters be used in a Wi-Fi password?

Yes. WPA2/WPA3 passwords (called Pre-Shared Keys or PSKs) accept printable ASCII characters, including symbols. Some very old routers or firmware have edge-case bugs with certain symbol sequences, but this is rare on modern hardware. If you encounter problems, try a password with only alphanumeric characters.

What is the most secure Wi-Fi password?

A long, fully random Pre-Shared Key — at least 16 to 20 characters mixing all character types — on a WPA3 or WPA2 network. Randomness matters more than memorability here, since you usually enter it once per device. This generator defaults to 20 characters for exactly that reason.

How do I share my Wi-Fi password with guests?

Write the generated key on a card kept near the router, or create a Wi-Fi QR code in your router's admin panel so guests can join by scanning. Avoid posting it in plain text on shared or work chat channels.

How often should I change my Wi-Fi password?

Change it whenever a device or guest you no longer trust has had access, after any suspected compromise, or when retiring old hardware. A strong random PSK does not need routine scheduled rotation — length and randomness do the heavy lifting.

Is WPA3 better than WPA2 for password security?

WPA3 adds protections such as SAE that make offline guessing of a captured handshake much harder, so a given password is more resilient on WPA3. Either way, a long random PSK is your best defense; choose WPA3 when every device on the network supports it.
